The mind-boggling tale of how two Yorkshire hunter-gatherers palled up with the wolves and saved us from doglessness. A hilarious new play for children of all ages and their families.

Thousands of years ago in the fresh, sparkling world just after the last Ice Age there were no dogs. There were wolves but we didn’t like them and they didn’t like us.

But luckily for us, along came two young hunter-gatherers Ugg ’n’ Ogg, who befriend the wolves Tooth ’n’ Nail and embark on a fun-packed adventure where despite flying meat bones, sabre-toothed tigers, woolly mammoths, forest infernos and even a time travelling stick, they finally get to invent our best friend the dog.

“Outstanding. Theatre Fideri Fidera are not Fringe favourites for nothing. Every aspect of the production is marvellous. From the acting, which is pitched perfectly to the wide-eyed wee ones; to the puppets and puppetry, which are in turn beautifully constructed and wondrously brought to life; via the story itself which is full of heart and smiles.”

Pitschi doesn't like the rough and tumble and mischievous fun of kitten play and dreams of being something else - a chicken, perhaps, or a goat or rabbit. After all, anything is better than being cat! Join Pitschi on her adventure around the farm to meet other animals – only to discover that she can be happy by being exactly what she is.

Following the show, children in the audience will be invited to the front of the stage to meet and play with the animal characters.

This play is based on Swiss author and illustrator Hans Fischer’s award-winning picture book, Pitschi. It's a tale that has delighted generations of children – and cat lovers – all around the world.

“This is a charming production which engages very well with its target audience through delightful puppets, beautiful animation, some gentle enjoyable participation for everyone – adults included … Highly recommended.”
Simon Hart, Artistic Director, Puppet Animation Festival
